Soles4Souls has a simple concept: they
procure shoes and get them to those in need.
Billy Gilman and 18 top Country Artists joined
together to compose the song “The Choice.” For every download the song receives
on iTunes, one pair of shoes will be donated to Soles4Souls.
Soles4Souls collects new shoes to give relief
to the victims of abject suffering and collects used shoes to support
micro-business efforts to eradicate poverty.
In the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami that his
Southeast Asia, Wayne Elsey, the Founder of Soles4Souls felt compelled to do
something. After seeing a picture of a single shoe washing up on the beach, he
was inspired to make a few calls to executives in the footwear industry and the
subsequent donation of a quarter of a million shoes to victims in the
devastated countries.
A few months later when Katrina hit, Wayne
called the same group of friends, and through our continued support,
Soles4Souls has sent over 1 million pairs of shoes down to the gulf coast
communities affected by the hurricane. The tremendous success sparked the idea
to start a non-profit and continue helping those in need all the time.
When asked what led him to want to become
involved with Soles4Souls, Billy Gilman said he was moved by the work they do
around the world (billboard.com).
Soles4Souls receives large donations from
footwear companies, retailers, churches, nonprofit ministries, civic groups and
individuals. The Atlanta Shoe Market is a proud supporter of Soles4Souls.
