The February 2014 Red Tie Affair
The February 2014 Red Tie Affair
For the first time in our show history ice storms, closed
highways, and grounded flights were on the agenda. No amount of hazardous weather could keep us
from hosting our first biannual show of the year, especially since we are proud
to be celebrating 70 years. The
executive director of SEST Laura Conwell-O’Brien summed up our latest show
perfectly “I never cease to be amazed by the people in this industry. This wasn’t the way we expected to mark our 70th
anniversary, but perhaps it was a testimony to why the show has been around all
these years.”
We would like to extend a very sincere thank you to everyone
who was a part of the February Red Tie Affair. The conditions were hazardous and the journey
to the show was a long one but so many of you, our valued retailers and
exhibitors, made the trek! We would also
like to thank the Cobb Galleria and the Renaissance Waverly Hotel. We would not have been able to make the show a
success without your dedicated staff.
If you were unable to make the February show due to the storm
then attending the August Atlanta Shoe Market is a must. The show will be held August 23rd
thru August 25th. Online
Registration is now open. Exhibitor registration
deadline is April 23rd 2014. You
can register for the August Atlanta Shoe Market here: https://www.atlantashoemarket.com/index.php/exhibitors/registration-form/

Olympics Fashion: Sochi 2014
Once every 4 years our nations come together for the Olympic
games. The Olympics are the best, one of the first ways our world united.
Although the athletic talent is incredible and worth the watch strictly for
that reason naturally the first thing we notice are the clothes! From opening
ceremonies to the uniforms the Olympics is the opportunity to showcase your
culture and style to the world and every time they do just that. These are some of our favorite and most culturally relevant looks from Sochi 2014.
Russia's Opening Ceremony Outfits- Love those Coats!
Tonga's Opening Ceremony Jacket
Mexico's Ski Uniforms
Russia's Beautiful Black Swan Themed Ice Dancing Costumes
Team USA'S Opening Ceremony Look
Team USA's Curling Uniforms are our favorite. We can't resist a good pattern!
What are your favorite looks from the Sochi Olympics?

2. Knee High Sandals
We have seen this trend before in a lace up. This seasons update is much more fashion forward. Rebecca Minkoff and Derek Lam have us drooling over their versions.
3. Anything Iridescent
The 90s are back ladies and gentleman. Celebrities are already going crazy over this look as seen on Hilary Duff and Rhianna below both in Stella McCartney
4. Floral Prints
Floral isn't just for apparel this season! These stunning Mary Katrantzou cut out Oxfords look like a work of art! This trend is a must have for Spring 2014, especially in Pastels.
5. Flatform Sandals
This Platform Sandal also has a bit of a 90s feel. First seen in Fall 2014 the latest updates from designers Marni and Sergio Rossi are to die for!
Shop these trends and more February 13-15th at the Red Tie Affair! We hope to see you there!

Five Fashion Life Lessons that Award Season Reminds us of.
It’s here! The best dressed time of year… Award season!
Award season officially kicked off last week with the Golden Globes and it did
not disappoint. So many beautiful dresses and faces with so little time to
enjoy them. We wish award season was all year! Award season reminds us of some
very important fashion do’s and don’t that can be translated into our daily
lives. Below are some of the lessons we are reminded off every award season…
1. Fit is the most important part of any outfit. If
it doesn’t fit right don’t buy it. Fit is everything when it comes to fashion.
Lena Dunhman reminded us of this at the Golden Globes in Zac Posen. The dress
itself is beautiful and the bold color really pops, unfortunately so does
she…out of the top of the dress.
2. Always dress appropriately. Know the dress code.
If the attire is formal wear formal. Looking underdressed will always affect
your credibility. Meryl Streep was
guilty of this at SAG awards and Audrey Plaza at the Golden Globes. Meryl looks
like she is going to dinner and Aubrey looks like she is a bridesmaid, neither looked
like they were on a Red Carpet at a prestigious award ceremony.
3. Less
is more. Too much going on in an outfit is distracting and hard to look at. Zoe Saldana is beautiful but everyone is too
busy trying to figure out what is going on with her dress to even notice. Strapless
off shoulder? Sheer paneling with jewels? More jewels on the bodice. AH! Same
goes for Tine Fey. The structure of her Carolina Herrera dress is fierce but
the pattern is confusing Flamingos? Hearts? Keep it simple!
4 4. Don’t
be afraid of a little color. Don’t be afraid to be bold, even if it is just an
accessory. Never underestimate the power
of a pop of color… it catches the eye. Lupita Nyong’o has really proved that
point this award season in her beautiful Golden Globes Ralph Lauren gown and in
Gucci at the SAG Awards.
And Finally......
5. Laugh at least once every day! Life is short and
no one gets out alive… Taking a moment to laugh is fun and reminds us to never
take ourselves too seriously. Thank you Emma Stone for reminding us of that at
the SAG awards. Her red carpet photo bombs and hilarious presenter speech kept
the evening fun!
